What does it mean to be simultaneously proud to be from a place and horrified by what it is? How does someone create their own national identity? This body of work explores the concept of America and its standing in popular culture as well as delving into personal relationships with place. “Everybody has their own America, and then they have pieces of a fantasy America that they think is out there but they can’t see…So the fantasy corners of America…you’ve pieced them together from scenes in movies and music and lines from books.
