One Day in the Middle of the Night
Nonsense literature is a board genre, with early examples dating back to the beginning of the 17th century. Often made up of contradictory sentences which subvert language conventions and question logical reasoning. Although often found in children’s books and folklore, linguists and scholars used ‘non-sense’ as a way to challenge the idea of our perceived social manufacture of order. The images can be seen as response to the conflicting and confusing messages we are receiving during the current lockdown and explore the perpetuating disruption of sense.
