Savannah Bracewell
The 5 Annas
With a performative approach to a social experiment, Bracewell used ‘The 5 Annas’ to transform herself into five different online personas. Having experienced sexist comments from men online herself, Bracewell chose to use an online dating platform to target men in an experiment. The aim was to see how the general public would react to these five very different kinds of women, all with the exact same name, age and biography which was a simple smiley face. With no actual information on the profiles apart from what you can assume in the images, the characters of ‘Anna Wells’ began matching with men from across Europe. The messages and matches received are a reflection of what was perceived within the images.
