Recipes for self-production
I research identity production using performed photography, staged photography and mixed media strategies. My aim is to contribute to the political debate about cultural issues by interrupting the discourse on essentialism and introducing cultural production. This interrogation of subjectivity challenges the notion of identity as a moral device that justifies totalitarian political discourses. Using gender as a driver for the discourse, the photographs are meant to work as recipes for self-production, a space for the workings for performativity in identity as well as personal strategies for becoming, the intentional and aware rhizomatic production of identity as the realm of possible inscriptions within the field of cultural production.
