Still Waters
‘A shocking and wholesale disregard for the environment.’ Mr. Justice Jeremy Johnson (9th July 2021) ‘Still Waters’ combines photography and text to explore the threats posed to the coastline and rivers resulting from our failure to deal with raw sewage. Using the location of CSOs (Combined Sewer Overflows) in my home county of Sussex, I spent several months visiting and photographing CSO sites to raise awareness of their environmental impact. Rooted in citizen science and citizen journalism, this is a story of neglect, ignorance and illegality, which saw Southern Water taken to court and fined a record £90 million for dumping approximately 16-21 billion litres of raw sewage into protected waters over a six-year period.
