Maria Bigby
Absence
Maria Bigby’s Absence is a poignant expression of the very particular grief that so many are still suffering following the Covid-19 pandemic. Unable to say goodbye to her father who died during the pandemic, Bigby evokes his life through the objects that represent his personality and that she encountered during the painful process of packing away his possessions. Absence is thus a reflection on the relationship between photography and memory as well as a memorial which evokes the loss suffered by so many. It functions as a harsh reminder of the ones we've had to leave behind and the bittersweet memories that linger.
