To Make an Omelette
To Make an Omelette explores the relationship between memory and identity within family photographs. The main focus is a sense of dissociation from the childhood self, expressed through several methods of obscuring the face in both archival and new photographs. An implicit feeling of guilt surrounding the process of changing and replacing the childhood self is the driving force behind the work. The masks are fragile pieces created from various methods associated with childhood activities. This connection to childhood is an attempt to break down the binary of past and present self, and to reconcile the two as one continuous state of being.
