Sumballō
Returning to Ireland after 14 years in South Africa, 'Sumballō' explores the concept of the 'relational', within the context of a Christian faith. In a country where conversations around faith are strained, the photographs are meditations of a wrestle to bring together in one’s mind, a conferring with one’s self, the act of faith, the hope in things not yet seen. Many things we do, we seem to do in a mode of knowing unknowing. The work documents a way back 'to the things themselves', towards understanding, towards surrender. Sumballō invites the viewer into a contemplative space where time slows and solace offered in the prospect of the 'relational'.
