Motherhood is universal across cultural barriers, societal bounds and ritualistic beliefs. The drastic change in social, physical and psychological identity that a newly initiated mother experiences is little understood, accepted or talked about, but is perhaps the most influential and emotional experience that a woman will ever go through. The child is similarly thrust into the blurry new context of an unknown world; developing physical senses, emotional connections and its own identity within the context of the mother's care. The photographs use the baby bottle as a metaphor, a filter and a separation which reflects the distorted, dreamlike and fragmented existence that defines those first few hazy months of motherhood. Abstracted details, features and vantage points add layers of symbolism onto the everyday routine materials of motherhood, allowing them to become pieces in the larger narrative of bringing mundane ritual to poetic mysticism.
