Dawn Gilfillan
My personal work is currently centred around a beach in the north-east of England that used to be one of the Durham coastlines black beaches - a dump for mining waste until the 1980s. The beach is gradually recovering and sloughing off the layers of waste, but it still remains a very strange and alien landscape, with orange iron-ore pools, rockfalls, a tall grass savannah, and many interesting colours and textures that you would not expect to find on a beach. My main focus here is not the sea, but what is there where the sea meets the land, and I have been working in digital medium format in order to capture every tiny detail.
