Non-Selfie
My photographic interest is in documenting social and cause related stories, seeking alternative ways in which this can be achieved through exploration of ideas and research. Much of my work is presented through photo books and multimedia. My current project is titled the Non-Selfie. The inspiration being the use of social media amongst young people, with the particular focus on the selfie where filters are used to present an unrealistic representation of the individual. For young people, reliance on technology can render the physical portrait obsolete. My project moves away from disposable imagery, stripping this back by using a large format camera. This slower interaction results in a physical product which is hand printed.
