Being interested in environmental sustainability, I naturally see my role as a photographer overlapping with that of an environmentalist. I want to show the effects that man is having on the planet. Having made many childhood trips to The Lake District, I always had a vision of the perfect natural landscape. As a result, I naively assumed this was the case further afield. Now I am more emotionally invested and concerned with the social landscape. This project is about the effects of deforestation and was first devised after a chance visit to Slaley Forest in Northumberland. It left me in shock after witnessing a landscape that had been manipulated by man-kind in the pursuit of progress.
