Rachel Cunningham
place/home
place/home explores notions of space, home and time. Located in the outskirts of Paris, this house has been in the same family for generations and is full of the objects and memories of lives lived and lost. The photographer has no direct connection to the house, but for the house's owner, each object contains stories and emotions unavailable to both the photographer and the viewer of the photograph. The marks of the past and present are visible on the surfaces of tables, on walls, and in the objects themselves: in the dust, scratches, cracks and paint. Stillness, then, is not only present in the 'still' photograph but in the inanimate nature of the subject itself.
