Hywel Harris
Gemini
Hywel Harris' 'Gemini' project is an exploration of the double, the doppelganger, and dyadic relationships. His work explores also the inherent uncanniness of the double. From mythical and cultural origins, the double and the doppelganger have long been subjects of fascination as well as fear. The doppelganger is seen today more as a second self or alter ego, and the motif of the double has been used by artists, writers and film-makers to explore the complex field of human subjectivity. Julia Kristeva tells us that uncanniness occurs 'when the boundaries between imagination and reality are erased', when conflict occurs between the self and the other - an "uncanny strangeness".'
