BreakdownJamie Love considers the relationship between man and machine, focussing his study on the automobile. He produces staged imagery that depicts the car 'failing in its duty' towards man. He views the car not just as a member of the family but a means to achieve freedom. With sublime landscapes as his backdrop, he constructs dramatic tension when the relationship between man and car breaks down in an idealistic setting. Using the subversive language of advertising Love pushes the ideal of freedom and beauty onto the viewer. He promotes the possibilities the car has to offer, whilst revealing a scenario in which those possibilities can be taken away by a simple malfunction.
