The city of Lens and its outlying areas have been influenced by the destructive nature of both the coal mining industry and by the massive trauma caused by the First World War. Almost 30 years since the mines closed and nearly 100 years since the start of the war and the wounds opened are only just starting to heal. Working with composite imagery my project explores the way in which the scars of the past can resonate through the landscape, with a focus on memorials and historical sites, entities maintained as constant reminders to all of the true destructive power of man.
