Mark J Rothberg
The camera, as Mark has come to understand it, can be used not only as a tool with which to document reality 'as is', but also as a tool to gather raw visual data from the surrounding environment in order to create something new. Working with both digital and analogue processes, narratives and metaphors are constructed using various elements of the natural world. Themes surrounding time, memory, things half remembered and the transience of reality form a large part of the concepts behind the work. Essentially, all the work is experimental and aims to shape and create a reality that began as a thought, which is then manifested into a visual representation of that thought.
