Inspired by the Instagram hashtag #strongnotskinny, these photographs of female powerlifters and weightlifters challenge modern perceptions of beauty and femininity. The gym is still considered to be a space dominated by males; the general consensus appears to be that muscles are not a feminine trait and there remains an unwarranted stigma around women participating in strength training. Lift aims to celebrate the mental and physical discipline of these female lifters who pride themselves on their capabilities and their highly toned physiques.
