Rapid Eye Movement
Rapid Eye Movement (or REM) is the stage during sleep where we dream. When woken during this state we are more likely to remember our dreams. The accounts that inspired these images were written directly after waking from REM sleep. This work is in no way an attempt to analyse the dreams shown, but simply a look at them, a documentary if you will. Sigmund Freud believed that it was impossible to analyse dreams through imagery, in the ways attempted by the surrealists. Freud believed elements such as the background and surrounding influences of a person are vital in the attempt to understand their dreams, otherwise they are taken out of context.
