The Echo Of A Silent Cry
This work deals with the effects of institutional enclosure on the person confined. Are they ever free from the inflicted rules and suppression? Once freed from the enclosure itself, the remaining scars have embedded themselves into the very psyche of the person involved, forever holding, forever tightening its grip. The loss of identity and loss of innocence become etched within the soul, resulting in the realization that all are reduced simply to a document or scrap of paper. Shanganagh House, the only open prison for juvenile offenders in this country, was closed down in 2002.
