Amanda Humphris
I use video and photography to explore methods of interpreting the state of mind achieved during meditation, with the Zen aesthetics and Buddhist culture a source of constant inspiration. Zen meditation focuses on attaining a calmness of mind through simple breathing techniques. Once you have learnt to exhale smoothly, without conscious effort, it is possible to 'forget' yourself. In this state, the mind becomes empty. It is not clouded by distractive thoughts, and situations that once seemed complex can be seen with clarity and simplicity.
