Katy Phillips
Middelrice is a project combining text from the Mass Observation Archive and photographic images of Northampton, the geographical centre point of England. Inspired by the theory of psychogeography this work explores the historical significance of location and urban identity to uncover a sense of place. Under the assumption that Northampton's centrality would enable transportation, travel and make an ideal home for commuters, the landscapes of Middelrice show something different all together. These images portray the closed off, confining and depressing landscape of urban Britain combined with the seemingly indifferent attitudes of the people who live there.
