Claire Bennett
A disconnection from the object through scientific analysis removes all connection that was expressed at the start of the journey. What was the significance of the object? The images are part of a wider work, including video and text, which invites the viewer to ponder objects. How are they seen? Why are they important? What makes something valuable enough to keep when it looks like it should be thrown away? The work moves to change the context the object is received; the abstract images are both beautiful and unattractive, suggesting to the viewer that the object could be received in this way. The accompanying video layers multiple analyses to change the way the viewer relates to other peoples treasured objects.
