The sublime contemplated
"Whereas the beautiful is limited, the sublime is limitless, so that the mind in the presence of the sublime, attempting to imagine what it cannot, has pain in the failure but pleasure in contemplating the immensity of the attempt" Immanuel Kant - Critique of Pure Reason. Using Kant's contemplation of the sublime, I began to take pictures of the material world around me - the material world that alluded to the immaterial world. Kant's theory meant that the idea of accurate representation of the sublime was impossible. By definition, the sublime cannot be represented. Yet the project took shape in the celebration of this unachievable task. For if the sublime were achievable, would there be any point in striving for anything?
