Muslim Women and Identity
This ongoing series explores the issue of identity and what it means to a Muslim woman in contemporary Irish society. The work looks beyond prevailing narratives surrounding the lives of Muslim women by showing honest representations of their daily lives. I got to know each of the women before taking any photographs, to find out about their lives, interests and ambitions, and also to understand how their religion shaped their identity. This process was pivotal, and the resulting images reflect these discussions, showing portraits of women whose lives are as similar and diverse as the lives of all women.
