A Comfort Zone is a Beautiful Place, but Nothing Ever Grows There
In this series I aim to address some of the conflicting feelings involved in being away from home. While travel enriches us, enabling us to see from a new perspective and to observe our own cultural territory through fresh eyes, there are also mixed feelings involved in leaving behind the familiar; the sadness (and loneliness) in leaving the comfort of the people and places we love, missing the security of our habits and routines, yet feelings of excitement at the very thought of breaking those habits and routines and of anticipation in meeting the unfamiliar. My images are an introspective and reflective meditation on the challenge of the unfamiliar, comprised of a series of unconventional self-portraits and urban landscapes.
