Ines Maria Marzo’s eye-opening Project ‘C_ _H_ _O_ _ – Unveiling the Secrets of the Invisible’ aims to expose the thorny and hideous truth of refined sugar and artificial sweeteners, which disguise themselves behind their sweet taste and seductive aesthetic. Despite these photomicrographs prove to be visually appealing, they conceal a dark side. Since the beginning of the XV century, the sugar trade relied massively on slavery to extract the 'white gold,' making sure it reached the tables of the wealthy, who in turn ended up to be enslaved by its sweeteness. With a series of photomicrographs unveiling the most bizarre and fascinating shapes of sugar, Marzo challenges the observer to connect the dots and reach their own conclusion.
