Millie McAvoy is a contemporary feminist artist. Her work critiques the patriarchal system, still embedded in society today. Through the use of her body, she responds to pre-constructed ideas around shape, size and aesthetics in relation to the body. Her self-portraits respond to concerns about beauty standards. Her creative process is motivated by a need to celebrate diversity and inclusion, aiming to reflect on today’s body shaming culture. Inspired by personal experience ‘May contain nudity’ represents self-judgment and acceptance.
