Irene Mazza
The complexity of being a woman
Being a woman is not easy. A woman's life is a continuous demonstration of identity. From personal experiences, there are conflicts in what society assumes for every woman. My project seeks to re-present the female body to challenge ways of being a woman. In addition, the ageing body speaks to mortality, fragility of the individual, family and the communities we live in. Through this journey, a perception emerged that the construction of a woman’s body is made for the other, a hosting of two subjectivities that inhabit her. In this series, Irene creates lines within the frame, utilising her body to incorporate this feeling of the other. Irene's photographic approach is the women's body, whose position constantly evolves with time.
