Enchanted Waters
Enchanted Waters. As a child, I crossed the Irish Border and observed differences between my home state and that of the neighbouring one. I continued my long-term interest with borders, and more recently the open border policy of many European governments encouraging the unimpeded movement of people. These invisible borders have evolved in parallel to changing patterns of individual identity. In recent years, the profile of the Irish land border has been much discussed within the context of the U.K. leaving the European Union. Despite this, the maritime border in Lough Foyle and Carlingford continues to be undetermined which has raised issues of sovereignty and jurisdiction. My work was made during 2022 and 2023 along the shores of both loughs.
