Pelenai
‘Pelenai’ is a series of photograms showing facial imprints. My intention with this body of work is to suggest that identity may be greater than simply the appearance of our skin. It also hints at the individuality that exists within our common biological heritage. In a haunting convergence of art and reality, these imprints highlight the nature of change, representing a quiet peacefulness and finality, whilst retaining the very essence and uniqueness of their origin, so that it is not just ashes that are left behind, but also memories, beliefs, history and culture.
