Raekwon Wharton-Ellison
A Love Letter to My Ancestors
With his project 'A Love Letter to My Ancestors', Ellison explores the cultural nuances of his mixed British and Caribbean heritage. Through realised cultural differences when moving to Farnham from Birmingham, Ellison intends to highlight facets of his identity, forming connections through personal and historically significant objects such as the Sugarcane and Coconut, which carry historical and personal symbolism. Also, reminiscing on the sugarcane fields behind his family home in Cayon, St Kitts, the self-portraits weaving together the threads of his ancestry and shaping his identity.
