Jake Wisdom
Sense of Reality
My work makes use of found imagery and digital collaging in order to produce complex fragmentary cityscapes. The source imagery derives from mid 20th century black and white postcards, predominantly depicting high streets or other similarly urban commercial scenes. My images serve as a visual narrative, reflecting my personal interpretation of urban landscapes and the diverse structures that define them. Like pieces of a puzzle, this use of complex fragments, inviting viewers to explore the intricate layers of a fabricated reality. Ultimately my work seeks to explore the boundaries and blur the lines between reality, representation, and illusion, inviting viewers to reconsider their understanding of the urban environment as well as the multi-layered and fabricated nature of modernity.
