How would you feel if you were told that your father was not your biological father? Betrayed? Hurt? Confused? In the 1940's Dr Mary Barton founded the first fertility clinic in London with her husband, Bertold Wiesner. The women who conceived at the clinic were asked to keep the truth of the conception a secret, even from the children. Through word of mouth, intense research and DNA test's, many of "Barton's Brood" have found each other. Inspired by my own experience, I recognised that the siblings create a mental image of their father based on the features and attributes they share with each other. This man is not a 'real' man, he is a hypothetical portrait of Bertold Wiesner created from portraits of 4 of his offspring.
