Portrait of an Atheist.
In its basic of definitions Atheism is described as a "Disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods". My specific interest and starting point for this work lay in a consideration of what relevance our species may have in a universe without any divine presence. How do we deal with issues such as mortality, existence and meaning? Portrait of an Atheist consists of a series of portraits made within environments containing created and preserved historical objects. The setting allows the sitters an opportunity to contemplate their own place in the context of history and time. Accompanying the portraits is a set of microscopic images that further explore our relationship to matter and meaning.
