Picking Apples Outside Paris
Gianluca is a fine art documentary photographer, who’s work delves into themes of family heritage and social geography. His most recent body of work ‘Picking Apples Outside Paris’ follows the journey of his father who hitchhiked across Europe at the age of 17, heading for England. Retracing the steps, Gianluca documents the landscape that his father passed through exactly 50 years ago. Working with archival photographs and collected ephemera builds a strong sense of time and place, these very materials alongside photographs makes for his work to feel enigmatic as he plays with 2 parallel narratives, his own and his fathers. Gianluca questions the role of documentary photography and how the genre relates to the notions of truth and fiction.
