Adonis
‘Adonis’ is a series that explores the body in its sculptural forms, aiming to challenge the unattainable goals constructed by society. The title comes from the Greek myth of the same name. Throughout history, Adonis has been described as a ‘handsome youth’, a depiction of ‘perfection’. The uniformity of this style creates the possibility for any individual to apply themselves to the image and its meaning. The lack of identity regarding the models creates a mirror in which others can see themselves in the photographs. This is an important factor in my work, to capture the natural details of the human body to show my audience that their insecurities are beautiful. In this modern era, we have a disconnect with our bodies as we demonise parts of ourselves that we adore on others. These portraits are reflecting those insecurities back at my audience and giving them space to consider themselves and their body.
