Maria Lundin Osvalds
Dear Maria
Dear Maria explores my journey with mental health issues through the lens of history, society and family. The work is influenced by how our collective and individual history affects the present. This multimedia project consists of interviews with my parents, self-portraits, photo albums and images of family heirlooms. Material from national archives visualises the history of mental health in Sweden and the development of the welfare state during the 20th century. Letters from my parents to me today and as 18 years old tie together past and present, society and family. This project comes together as a documentary film, using a visual language inspired by melancholia and the Swedish dark winter months. Submitted are images and screenshots from the film.
