The UK government is placing a big bet on hydrogen as a future fuel, in their approach towards Net Zero. As much as half of this production will rely on natural gas. The industry is secretive and resists attempts to engage. Black and white pinhole photos respond to glossy marketing material and computer simulations of often unbuilt hydrogen facilities. The series of colour portraits are all unnamed and by often unknown photographers, demonstrates how little we understand about hydrogen. Balloons symbolise the reliance today on natural gas for hydrogen manufacture, tagged with information and often contradictory opinions. This work, which is ongoing, seeks to share information and to encourage people to ask questions.
