Fluid, Still
I use manipulation of the photographic process to interrogate and interrupt the transaction of looking. I am interested in the moment of transformation that is photography- the transfer of touch and light that shapes reality, and how I can manipulate this transfer through the physical properties of the photographic object. This piece articulates the feeling of being in a body, and how that body exists alongside photography. Using self-portraiture declares intention and control over systems of representation I unwillingly find myself in. Making the piece, photos were broken down and dissolved- images made fluid and ephemeral. Each element has moved through water, becoming almost impossibly fragile, where it exists now is where the image finally crystallised.
