The Passage

‘The Passage’, represents a tranquil exploration of the unfamiliarity of landscape, offering a gateway into an unseen realm through imagination and introspection. These images serve as metaphorical journeys through the remnants of the imperial garden of Qing dynasty, once grant but laid to ruins by European forces during the Anglo-French expedition to China in the 1850s. Transcending their historical confines, the landscapes transform into intricate, zone-like labyrinths of water bodies amidst gentle undulations. This rejuvenated view of the past revitalises our perception and relationship with these elements, provoking a search for connections and meanings within the potent signs, traces, and fragmented pieces they reveal. The artwork evokes enquiries into the complex and sensual connections between ever-shifting forms and cultural passages.
