Dominique Arieu
Some Secret Shines Metal
My father was a lawyer in Argentina, specialised in Mining Law. This project starts as a way to connect with my father and to understand his passion for mining. The results are an exploration of the land and geology of South West Cornwall, where I interrogate the traces of the mining past, whilst focusing on the primitive and the natural that is the land and the rocks. At the same time, I am processing the grief and loss of my father, which allows me to get to a collective unconscious, where I can remember what has been lost. I delve into the depths of my father’s personal archive, developing a pluralistic practice, in both Cornwall and Argentina.
