Virginia Mazzocato
The Space Between
Through the lens of the camera, individuals are framed within a socially constructed reality, often resulting in a loss of control over their sense of self. With the blooming of social media and the vast proliferation of images, photographs are becoming an expression of the detachment that is created by the medium itself. At the heart of this project is the idea that our identities are not fixed or static, but rather a complex interplay of the various roles and personas we inhabit. Using collage and re-assemblage, by delving into the interplay between visibility and concealment, between perceived reality and actual experiences, I want viewers to reflect on their own perceptions, identities, and self-expression. My inspiration arose from online dating where images misrepresented identities, leading me to question the role of images in our lives.
