Latitudes of the Longitude
England has a particular claim to fame with regard to Longitude - for Greenwich is the ‘zero point’ from where the world’s clocks are set. A dividing meridian that runs North and South - English Channel to North Sea, this invisible line is resonant of the faded British Empire, cartography, timekeeping, astronomical charts, and GPS. I set out to ‘picture’ the landscapes of this ‘Prime’ meridian, an absorptive journey where I look for a physicality to longitude - to visualise this concept of mathematics and geography: To walk along this line, you must traverse it in an interrupted, serpentine manner which is reflective of our oscillating modern relationship with kingdom and country. In these ways, there is latitude to the longitude.
