Family Seat
This current series ‘Family Seat’ was taken during the exit from the family home after my parents-in-law passed away. It was a silent commission for the family and intended to act as therapy as well as a document. The family home had been a home since nineteen thirty-nine and everything was homemade. The make-do-and-mend of my parents-in-law shines through in this project. I chose black and white film and natural light for its particularly soulful mood as the light emptied the home. On my MA at Brighton University, I used resources to research and expand the archive, reconfiguring it in a social and political sense, as well as a poetic look at the space and the marks left.
