Soham Joshi
Camera and The Queer Image
Soham imagines the photo objects to be non-binary in nature. The pieces are negatives realized on darkroom photo paper that expects the image falling onto it to be a ‘final print’. The pieces offer resistance against being put in a box and leave dents over them which can later be seen through the chemical development process the pieces undergo. With this work, Soham tries to push the norms of the standard image-making processes. There is individuality in the way these artefacts ‘come out’. He feels a similarity between the process the works go through and the physical, emotional, and social settings. Soham experimented with it while he figured out his orientation and identity not having conformed to the gender binary.
