Roey Xinqi Qiu
My work explores Asian pornography by subverting traditional gender roles, positioning male models in poses typically reserved for female performers. Sparked by frustration with the portrayal of Asian females catering to male desires, my project confronts these harmful stereotypes. As a lesbian artist, my queer perspective offers a non-eroticized view, challenging conventional ideas about gender, desire, and power dynamics. I create deliberately constructed, unreal spaces to highlight the artificiality of pornographic representations. This approach disrupts typical portrayals, encouraging viewers to reconsider their biases and societal expectations. Through this project, I aim to foster a deeper understanding of human vulnerability and strength, while critically examining the impact of media on perceptions of gender and desire.
