Up In Smoke
Up In Smoke is an ongoing photographic investigation focusing on air pollution from waste incineration in London. Despite progressive advancements in technology and the development of new filters aimed at minimising the release of harmful particles, waste incinerators continue to contribute to air pollution. While marketed as an environmentally friendly process, incinerators still emit pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, particulate matter, and ultra-fine particles (UFPs). The project combines photographs, text, audio, and moving images. My primary photographic approach uses a blend of documentary, landscapes, and aerial photography. To showcase the environments directly affected by these facilities. The project’s webpage extends this function by providing tools to better understand our role as a society in addressing this urgent crisis.
