Tracey Paddison
Without Warning
In 2020 the river burst its banks and flooded my home during one of the most intense storms ever recorded in Britain. The Meteorological Office named it Storm Dennis and classified it a weather bomb, the media described it as a once-in-a-century event. Rainfall caused severe flooding, rivers reached their highest recorded levels, seven fatalities occurred as a result. The work aims to make my psychological experience of a river flood visible by adopting a metaphorical aesthetic. I explore realities while keeping a connection to the real. I employ a critical lens to examine how the experience affected my wellbeing and the landscape around me. The work prompts conversations about the psychological challenges while grappling with the climate emergency.
