SCHICKSAL* (*Schicksal is a German word meaning fate, destiny - relating to life’s path.)
I am a Scottish/ German visual artist working in the medium of photography. Over the years my work has gone from highly figurative to highly abstract. Currently, I am working on a project under the title SCHICKSAL. This project combines the social issue of migration with an abstract aesthetic. Through meetings and interviews I collect the stories of people who for very personal reasons left their home country and made Germany their home, like myself. The resulting abstract images started as portraits. These portraits then underwent photographic processes. Combined with titles and texts they represent the stories of these people. My collaborators are a mixture of political/economic refugees and people who re-located for family/love!
